Dr. D’Amato received her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles, completed her anesthesiology residency at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, N.J., and completed her fellowship training in pain management at Mount Sinai in New York City. Board certified in pain management and anesthesiology, Dr. D’Amato previously practiced at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J.
Dr. D’Amato commented on Medicare and Medicaid’s proposed cancellation of TENS treatment reimbursement in an interview with Becker’s ASC Review. “In the climate of pain management, with the over prescription of opioid medications, it is always nice to have a non-medication and non-interventional alternative, in my arsenal of treatment options,” she said. “Unfortunately, we now run the risk of the private insurance companies following the CMS’s stance. It limits the concept of a multi-modal approach to patients with chronic low back pain.” A TENS unit can be beneficial for patients because they can use it on their own with few negative side effects, she said.
