North Carolina Hospital System Files CON for ASC

Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Health & Hospitals filed two certificate of need applications with the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation for the construction of a freestanding ASC and a diagnostic center, according to a WakeMed news release.

The two centers will be built on the same complex, with an expected total cost of $60.7 million. WakeMed hopes that the new facilities will relieve congestion the WakeMed Regional Campus, according to the release.

The surgery center will have eight operating rooms and three procedure rooms. The diagnostic center will feature general radiography, fluoroscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography, bone densitometry and laboratory services, according to the report.

Physician office space and a proposed $9.5 million Wake Prostate Center of Excellence are also expected to be developed at the location. The CON for the prostate center is expected near the end of Sept. 2009.

A decision on the CONs for the surgery center and the diagnostic center is expected in Nov. 2009.
