Marc E. Koch, MD, MBA, is the president and CEO of Somnia Anesthesia, a physician-owned anesthesia management company. In his leadership position, Dr. Koch focuses on furthering the company’s mission of offering high-quality and cost-efficient anesthesia solutions to hospitals, ASCs and office-based facilities nationwide.
Dr. Koch, who is a board-certified anesthesiologist, graduated with honors from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed his internship at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y., and a residency in anesthesia at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn. He co-founded the medical practice Resource Anesthesiology Associates in 1996.
In April, Somnia Anesthesia announced the release of a web-based application that allows hospital executives to evaluate their facility’s anesthesia services in four critical areas — leadership, financial management, quality improvement and clinical services. Executives can use the app to grade the productivity and efficacy of their current anesthesia service provider based on a series of twenty questions in the four areas.
“The importance of anesthesia services evaluation cannot be understated; anesthesia is the heart of the OR and the OR is the heart of the hospital. Without an efficient, high-quality anesthesia service provider, a hospital’s clinical and financial standing suffers,” Dr. Koch said. “The application gives hospital decision-makers a quick tool to utilize to measure the effectiveness of their anesthesia department.
