Prior to joining SMP as the chief operating officer, he held the positions of group vice president and vice president of operations for Nueterra Healthcare, a national ASC and hospital management and development company. As vice president of operations he had full operational and profitability responsibility for over 25 ASCs and surgical hospitals.
In an recent interview with Becker’s ASC Review, Mr. Martin saids centers should track cash balance, operating room schedule and staffing schedule on a daily basis; case volume, charges, collections, quality statistics/agenda and employee and physician satisfaction on a weekly basis; net income, cash flow statement, accounts receivable days, accounts payable balance and cases and charges by physicians on a monthly basis; and distributions, supply costs with physical inventory correction and block utilization on a quarterly basis.
He views healthcare opportunities with the financial perspective he developed in the MBA program at Dartmouth Business School and understands the importance of leadership, teamwork and employee development. He has been a speaker at national surgery center conferences and is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame at the University of Rochester where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
