Nearly Half of Recent California Nursing Grads Are Unemployed

Forty-three percent of California nurses licensed in the past 18 months have not yet secured employment, according to a survey by the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care.

Of the approximately 1,500 newly-licensed nurses who participated in the survey, most cited a lack of experience (92 percent) as the primary reason for failing to attain employment, followed by a lack of positions available (54 percent), employer preference for a BSN degree (42 percent) and being out of school for too long (6 percent).
