50% of Physicians to Take Advantage of EHR

The percentage of physicians using electronic medical records has doubled over the past two years, according to Doug Fridsma, MD, director of the Office of Standards and Interoperability of the Office of the National Coordinator, according to a Health Imaging report.

He cited ONC statistics that in the last two years, the percentage of primary care physicians using EHRs has doubled from 20 to 40 percent. Since 2009, the percentage of hospitals using the technology has doubled from 16 to 35 percent.

More than 50 percent of physicians indicate they will take advantage of EHRs to gain meaningful use incentives.
