Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center Creates Quiet Zone Policy

Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center in Tigard has implemented a “quiet zone” policy that prohibits all healthcare personnel from using electronic devices in patient care areas, according to an Oregon Patient Safety Commission article.

Although electronic devices can help physicians and other healthcare providers boost healthcare quality and delivery, “the potential impact on care as a result of distraction, electromagnetic interference, and infection control is not well understood,” the commission says.

As a result, Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center, with the approval of the center’s governing board, created and implemented a policy that requires all healthcare providers to refrain from cell phone use in patient care areas.
