Sales of EMRs grew 14.2 percent in 2011 to $17.9 billion, representing stronger growth than in 2010.

Kalorama attributed the continued growth to physician and hospital acceptance, robust competition and growth in budgets for EMRs.

“Paperless medicine is no longer a concept in a few model hospitals,” said Bruce Carlson, publisher of Kalorama Information, in the release. “It’s something that hospitals and physicians are really incorporating into their workflows. And that is showing up in budgets and increased vendor sales.”
