Dr. Spillar was credited with reshaping the practice of anesthesia in San Antonio with her late husband, Bliss R. Spillar Jr., MD. Dr. Spillar spent more than 50 years in the medical profession.
Dr. Spillar did her internship and residency in anesthesia at Herman Hospital in Houston, after which she provided 24/7 anesthesia services along with her husband at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital. When she retired, the Spillar Anesthesia Group had 23 anesthesiologists — a third of them women.
