The medical center will now be able to proceed with the $8.6 million project, which will complement the two medical office buildings under construction nearby.
The N.C. Division of Health Service Regulations previously denied Wake Forest’s certificate of need application in March 2011, claiming the medical center overstated the number of cases that would be performed at the new facility and that the new facility could duplicate existing or approved services. The medical center appealed the decision, and the state approved the request after a re-evaluation.
Wake Forest is still seeking approval of a certificate of need application for a $5.1 million imaging center.
