Dr. Aanestad, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who sold his practice and the surgery center he owned this past December, recently announced his bid for the 1st Congressional District seat that U.S. Rep. Wally Herger will vacate when he retires.
Dr. Aanestad is a former senator who previously represented California’s 4th Congressional District. He was also a candidate for the lieutenant governor’s seat in 2010.
In the letter, Dr. Aanestad primarily focuses on three reasons he is running for office again, including a desire to serve in what he expects will be a Republican-controlled Congress and because he has “the experience needed to effectively serve the 1st District.”
This article was revised May 14, 2012, to reflect the following correction: An earlier version of this article had reported that Dr. Aanestad had a MD in his title. Dr. Aanestad has a DDS.
