Medtronic acquired the technology last July when it purchased Salient Surgical Technologies for $480 million. Medtronic had participated in Salient’s seven rounds of funding over the past 10 years. The surgical sealer uses “Transcollation” technology — a combination of radiofrequency energy and saline — and is designed for use with cut muscle tissue and with epidural veins.
