Covidien Elects President and CEO Jose E. Almeida Chairman of the Board

Covidien’s board of directors elected president and CEO Jose E. Almeida to the additional position of chairman of the board, effective Mar. 13, according to a news release.

Mr. Almeida will succeed former president and CEO Richard J. Meelia, who has served as chairman since Oct. 2008. Mr. Meelia agreed to serve as non-executive chairman of the board for a transition period of up to one year following his July 2011 retirement.
