For their study, the researchers compared the quality of care provided by 67 internal medicine residency ambulatory clinics with the quality of care provided by 703 general internists.

Their analysis showed “significant quality gaps in process, intermediate outcome, and patient-experience measures,” the authors wrote. The authors suggested policymakers and educators devise new residency curricula to emphasize high-quality care for diabetes patients.
