The act, which requires reporting of physician payments from manufacturers of drugs, devices, biologicals and medical supplies covered by CMS, would also require manufacturers and GPOs to disclose physician ownership or investment interests to CMS.
“Transparency and openness throughout the healthcare supply chain help give hospitals and patients confidence that decisions about patient care are based on science and evidence-based sourcing, and that physicians have not been unduly influenced by medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturer marketing, financial incentives, or other potential conflicts of interest,” Mr. Rooney said in the release.
