A new study published in Health Outcomes Research in Medicine suggests that most U.S. adults believe their physicians are doing an “excellent” job of providing medical care and patients are extremely satisfied with the care they receive.

For their study, researchers analyzed six years of data from the online patient satisfaction survey tool, www.DrScore.com. In total, 14,984 patients’ satisfaction reports were analyzed by the research team. Through the DrScore survey tool, patients rate their satisfaction with their physicians on a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the highest level of satisfaction. Only physicians with 10 or more ratings were included in the study to ensure representative scoring.

Their analysis showed the overall average patient satisfaction rating was 9.28. Out of the nearly 15,000 ratings analyzed, 10,510 were 10s and 2,291 were 9s. Only 276 (less than 2 percent) ratings were 0s or 1s.

The researchers also found waiting time and spending time with the patient were directly associated with the level of patient satisfaction. The majority of patients waited less than 15 minutes to visit their doctor, and 72 percent of patients reported having a physician visit of 15 minutes or longer.
