Endoscopes can easily reach the gastrointestinal tract and the colon, but the small intestine has been hard to reach. Researchers tested several prototype devices, which used one movable tip and one fixed tip to move the endoscope through the small intestine, on anesthetized animals. Researchers found the suction prototypes were able to move the endoscope through the small bowel with no trauma and the larger the tip surface area, the more pull force and vacuum pressure it created.
