In March, Dr. Washington pled guilty to defrauding the Detroit Public School System for more than $3.3 million for a “sham” wellness program. She was one of nine people indicted in the scheme. In July, she pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and defrauding Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield for more than $5 million in unnecessary tests, according to the report. She also admitted to accepting approximately $350,000 in kickbacks from home health agencies and testing facilities for patient referrals.
