ASCA board member David George, MD, gave the Congressman a tour of the center, during which they discussed the current issues affecting the industry. Rep. Johnson noted that he is familiar with ASCs from a patient perspective because he has relatives who have undergone surgery at an ASC.

Dr. George also discussed the operational side of an ASC with Rep. Johnson and outlined the slowdown in ASC growth as well as the payment disparities between surgery centers and hospital outpatient departments.
