Study: Signet Cell Histology Five Times More Likely in Rectal Cancer Patients Under 40

Researchers found signet cell histology is five times more prevalent in rectal cancer patients under the age of 40, according to findings presented at the 2011 Annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons.

Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results national cancer registry, the largest cancer database in the United States, researchers found patients under 40 had a 4.63 percent risk, while patients over 40 had a 0.78 percent risk.
