The Guidance Center, an inpatient and outpatient facility in Flagstaff, Ariz., has repaid the state $148,000 after a state investigation claimed it double-billed Medicaid and Medicare, according to an Arizona Daily Sun report.
Investigators said the Guidance Center had billed Medicare and Medicaid for some of the same services over a span of three years. Also, some medical appointments that only took a few minutes were allegedly billed as half-hour visits, according to the report.
Officials with the Guidance Center said the billing patterns were due to a software error for complicating “honest attempts” to recover unpaid bills from multiple agencies.
