Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue proposed an $80.7 million, or 10 percent, cut in state Medicaid reimbursements to Georgia hospitals, according to a report by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The proposed cuts are a result of the state’s $1.6 billion reduction in forecasted tax revenue for 2010 and come after the state legislature’s failure to support a hospital bed tax and provider fee.

The proposed cuts will further reduce Medicaid payments to hospitals as the hospitals receive federal matching funds for state Medicaid payments, according to the report.
