The bill, which both houses of the state Legislature has approved, would prohibit ambulatory surgery centers which lose accreditation because of safety violations to reapply for accreditation with a different accrediting organization.

It would also require the state medical board to document on its website when an outpatient surgery center loses its accreditation, has it suspended or if the ASC is placed on probation.
Gov. Jerry Brown has until Oct. 9 to make a decision on the bill, which was authored by Sen. Curren Price Jr. (D-Inglewood) and introduced in January.
