David Byrd (Des Peres Hospital; St. Louis, Mo.). Mr. Byrd was named CFO of Des Peres Hospital in June 2008. He has more than 15 years of experience in accounting and management. He most recently served as assistant CFO of Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, and previously served as controller for Des Peres.
Matthew Flynn (Lake Forest Hospital; Lake Forest, Ill.). Mr. Flynn was announced as CFO of Lake Forest Hospital in April 2008. Prior to his appointment Mr. Flynn served as CFO for Saint Joseph Healthcare in Bangor, Maine, and as CFO for Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Maine. He brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience to the position. Mr. Flynn earned a master’s in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
Mary Ann Freas (Southwest General Health Center, Middleburg Heights, Ohio). Ms. Freas was named CFO of Southwest General Health Center in Dec. 2008. She recently served as the top financial executive for all eight of the Cleveland Clinic Health System’s community hospitals. Ms. Freas also previously served as CFO for the Meridia Health System in Cleveland.
John Gates (California Pacific Medical Center; San Francisco). Mr. Gates was named CFO of California Pacific Medical Center in Oct. 2008. He most recently served as CFO at University Hospital in Camden, N.J. He has also been CFO at Forum Health in Youngstown, Ohio, Covenant Health Systems in Lubbock, Texas, and Parkland Hospital and Health System in Dallas. Mr. Gates received his master’s in business administration from Villanova (Pa.) University
Wesley James (North Fulton Regional Hospital; Roswell, Ga.). Mr. James was named CFO of North Fulton Regional Hospital in March 2008. He previously served as CFO at South Fulton Medical Center in Atlanta. During his tenure, the hospital completed $8.5 million in capital improvements and demonstrated EBITDA improvement of 151 percent. Mr. James also served as the regional director of finance for Tenet Healthcare’s central northeast region. Mr. James received a master’s in business administration from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.
Todd Lockcuff (Inova Alexandria Hospital; Alexandria, Va.). Mr. Lockcuff was named CFO of Inova Alexandria Hospital and assistant vice president of Inova Health System in Dec. 2008.
Prior to joining Inova, Lockcuff served as CFO and vice president for Tenet Healthcare’s Hilton Head (S.C.) Regional Medical Center. He is currently a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Management Financial Association. Mr. Lockcuff earned a master’s in healthcare management from the University of Phoenix.
Jim Lynch (Fairbanks Memorial Hospital/Denali Center; Fairbanks, Ala.). Mr. Lynch was named CFO of Fairbanks Memorial Hospital/Denali Center in Nov. 2008. Prior to being named CFO, Mr. Lynch served as the hospital’s chief human resources officer. He has also worked as the assistant controller for a multi-specialty health clinic.
Dan Macksood (Washington Hospital Center; Washington, D.C.). Mr. Macksood was named CFO of Washington Hospital Center in Oct. 2008 and has more than 20 years of experience in fiscal management. He most recently served as the hospital’s interim CFO. Previously, he served as CFO for Duke Raleigh (N.C.) Hospital and as the director of finance at Duke Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Ralph Mercuri (Major Hospital; Shelbyville, Ind.). Mr. Mercuri was named CFO of Major Hospital in Sept. 2008. He previously served as CFO at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Enid, Okla., and at Floyd Memorial Hospital & Health Services in New Albany, Ind. Mr. Mercuri received a master’s in business administration from the University of Dayton (Ohio).
Brad Sinclair (Crossgates River Oaks Hospital; Brandon, Miss.). Mr. Sinclair was announced as CFO for Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in May 2008. He previously served as regional practice manager for the Mississippi division of Physician Practice Management. He also previously served as CFO at Riley Hospital in Meridian, Miss. Mr. Sinclair earned a master’s in professional accountancy from Mississippi State University.
Mike Scialdone (Memorial Health System; Colorado Springs, Co.). Mr. Scialdone was named CFO of Memorial Health System in Oct. 2008. Memorial consists of more than a dozen facilities, including three hospitals, throughout El Paso County, Co. Before joining Memorial, Mr. Scialdone served as CFO at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs. He also worked for 14 years as CFO at a number of Florida hospitals.
Michael Szubski (University Hospitals; Cleveland, Ohio). Mr. Szubski was appointed CFO of University Hospitals in Oct. 2008. Mr. Szubski previously served as CFO for the group’s acute care hospitals. He also worked as CFO at Case Medical Center, a University Hospitals facility. Before working with University Hospitals, Mr. Szubski held management positions at EMH Regional Healthcare System in Ohio, United HealthCare of Ohio and the Mt. Sinai Health System in Cleveland. Mr. Szubski earned a master’s in business administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Sean Thomson (Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center; Fredericksburg, Va.). Mr. Thomson was named CFO of HCA’s Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Sept. 2008. He most recently served as CFO of HCA’s Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Va. He joined HCA in 1995 as a staff accountant at Frankfort (Ky.) Regional Medical Center and has also served as an internal auditor and as a controller for HCA.
Gene Winters (Haywood Regional Medical Center; Clyde, N.C.). Mr. Winters was named CFO of Haywood Regional Medical Center in January. He previously served as the CFO for Regency Hospital Company in Alpharetta, Ga., and Acadia Healthcare in Indianapolis. Mr. Winters began his career with the Hospital Corporation of America where he eventually became the youngest hospital CFO in the company’s history.
Jon Zilkow (Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center; Fountain Valley, Calif.). Mr. Zilkow was announced as CFO at Tenet Healthcare’s Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center in January. Mr. Zilkow previously served as CFO at another Tenet facility, North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell, Ga. He has been with Tenet since 2001 when he served as CFO of Community and Mission Hospitals in Huntington Park, Calif., until it was sold.
