A physician with offices in New Orleans has been charged with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud after he allegedly billed durable medical equipment to Medicare for patients he never saw, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Anthony S. Jase, MD, was indicted on several counts of healthcare fraud, conspiracy to solicit and pay healthcare kickbacks and substantive counts of paying and receiving illegal kickbacks. His alleged involvement in the DME scheme resulted in $280,323 in fraudulent Medicare payments, according to the release.
If convicted, Dr. Jase faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release.
