Sue Nanda, 40, of Costa Mesa, Calif., worked as a capper, or promoter, for Unity Outpatient Surgery Center in Buena Park, Calif., where she recruited more than 170 people to undergo unnecessary surgery in exchange for money or low-cost cosmetic surgery.
Ms. Nanda faces up to 20 years in prison upon sentencing.
Nineteen defendants, including three doctors, an attorney and an accountant, have been charged for their participation in the scheme. Six of these defendants have pleaded guilty and have been sentenced.
The others are scheduled for a pretrial hearing later this month.
