A patient died three days after having a Lap-Band device implanted at an outpatient facility with several names, including Beverly Hills Surgery Center.

The complaint was filed against Daniel Shin, MD, the 1-800-GET-THIN advertising company promoting Lap-Band surgery and another unnamed physician. The complaint alleges the physicians failed to provide proper standards of care, which later led to the patient’s death after her Lap-Band surgery.
The complaint also alleges the advertising company provided false information regarding its “top-rated surgical specialists,” according to the report. Dr. Shin was on probation at the time of the patient’s care due to a conviction stemming from assault with a deadly weapon, according to the complaint. The unnamed physician reportedly was under investigation by the state medical board for an undisclosed reason.
