Gastroenterologist Michelle Kang Kim, MD, PhD, has been named chair of the Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

In the role, Dr. Kim will guide the department’s clinical, research and educational mission, according to a Nov. 5 news release from NYU Langone Health.

She is a specialist in gastrointestinal carcinoid and neuroendocrine tumors, and her research is centered on the development of gastrointestinal cancer and prognosis in carcinoid and neuroendocrine tumors.

Dr. Kim succeeds Steven Abramson, MD, who led the department for more than a decade.

“NYU Langone has built a culture where outstanding patient care, rigorous science and medical education drive each other forward,” Dr. Kim said in the release. “I’m honored to return to New York to lead a department at the center of that culture, and to build on Dr. Abramson’s remarkable legacy by supporting our faculty and ensuring every patient who comes to us receives the highest-quality care.”

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
