Windom (Minn.) Area Health opened a new clinic in Fairmont, Minn., in early October and celebrated it with a ribbon cutting and community open house Nov. 5, the Fairmont Sentinel reported.
The eight-room clinic sits inside the Victoria State Crossing Building. It currently offers general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and urology. Providers include Dr. Laura Grigereit, Lori Fett, CNP, Dr. Kendra Kamlitz and Dr. James Hinshaw.
Phase two, expected in early winter 2027, adds primary and acute care, lab services and on-site X-ray imaging. Dr. AJ Yusuf, Windom Area Health’s new chief medical officer, will provide primary and acute care once that phase launches. Later phases call for acute care hours and a surgery center in spring 2027, which would allow procedures such as colonoscopies on site.
“There’s so much that goes on in the background so we don’t want to give specific dates yet, but we appear to be on target,” said Leah Jenson, outreach and operations manager at Windom Area Health.
Ms. Jenson said the clinic has seen a steady flow of urology patients and is building its patient base in general surgery and OB-GYN.
Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce President Miranda Tulowetzke framed the opening as a rural care win. Ms. Tulowetzke called rural healthcare “a major topic and much needed” and welcomed investment aimed at growth in Fairmont.
The Fairmont clinic extends Windom Area Health’s reach beyond its home campus, following the system’s $32 million medical office building project in Windom.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
