The University of Maryland Medical System has broken ground on a new outpatient center in Towson, Md., that will house surgical, specialty, rehabilitation and primary care services.

The University of Maryland Center for Outpatient Care will include two relocated ASC focused on orthopedic and pain procedures and a multi-specialty surgery center into modernized, larger facilities, according to an Oct. 30 news release from the University of Maryland Medical System.

The four-story, 112,000-square-foot project will cost $110 million and serve about 250,000 patient visits each year.

The center is expected to open in spring 2028.

Partners in the project include the University of Maryland School of Medicine, its Faculty Physicians, Ruxton Surgical Center, Towson Orthopaedic Associates, Towson Sports Medicine, Towson Surgical Center and the UM St. Joseph Medical Group practices, the release said.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
