Care New England Medical Group, part of Providence, R.I.-based Care New England, opened a 45,000-square-foot ambulatory care center in East Greenwich, R.I. It dedicated the center’s primary care floor to Care New England President and CEO Michael Wagner, MD.

The three-story East Greenwich Ambulatory Care Center sits at 1405 South County Trail. It offers primary care, orthopedics, cardiology, OB-GYN, behavioral health, general and plastic surgery, pulmonary medicine, medical and surgical weight loss, and primary care for older adults. It also has lab services and diagnostic imaging, including mammography and ultrasound.

“Our goal is to bring the vast majority of a patient’s ambulatory needs to a single, accessible location,” said Roger Mitty, MD, president of Care New England Medical Group.

The Michael Wagner, M.D. Center for Primary Care takes up the entire second floor. Dr. Wagner joined Care New England in 2022 and will become board chair in early 2027. During his time as CEO, the system moved to a single Epic EHR, completed strategic planning and a rebrand, secured $100 million in capital and returned to positive operating performance.

“I am deeply honored by this dedication and grateful to the team who have worked so hard to make this vision a reality,” Dr. Wagner said.

The center has digital check-in kiosks and virtual registration. It also creates care pathways to Care New England’s Kent, Butler and Women & Infants hospitals.

Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, state Sen. Bridget Valverde and state Rep. Evan Shanley attended the ribbon-cutting.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
