Patient Safety Concerns Force New York Hospital to Stop Accepting New Patients

The New York Department of Health has told Peninsula Hospital, based in Far Rockaway, N.Y, to stop accepting new patients and divert ambulances due to patient safety concerns, according to numerous reports, including a New York Daily News report.

The hospital was expected to temporarily close its emergency room and also prepare a plan for the transfer and discharge of all patients.

The DOH indicated the shut down measures would continue until the hospital could address the safety concerns, as well as operational issues.

 

The hospital is facing significant financial strain following the withdrawal of MediSys, the hospital’s sole corporate sponsor.
