Public Citizen sent the FDA a petition urging it to require a “black box” warning, the strongest warning possible, detailing side effects and potential to cause addiction.
The group said the drug is “grossly overused” and pointed to side effects like bone fractures, infections, heart rhythm abnormalities and the potential that acid reflux would be exacerbated when patients discontinue use.
