Arizona ASC founder, ophthalmology leader dies

William Fishkind, MD, founder of Northwest Eye Specialists, now Oracle Eye Physicians & Surgeons, died Oct. 1.

Dr. Fishkind spent more than 50 years caring for patients at the Tucson, Ariz., practice, according to an Oct. 5 Arizona Jewish Post obituary.

He was board-certified in internal medicine and ophthalmology. Dr. Fishkind authored numerous publications and textbooks and spent time teaching other physicians and surgeons.

Dr. Fishkind also held leadership roles with the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society, serving as president and later president emeritus.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Fishkind served as president of Temple Emanu-El in Tucson. He is survived by his wife, Wendy, his children, Jennifer and Bret, and four grandchildren.
