Jerry Jones III, MD, a former emergency room physician in Mequon, Wis., was sentenced to 27 months in prison for unlawful prescribing controlled substances.
On June 29, 2026, Dr. Jones pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances outside the usual course of professional practice and without a legitimate medical purpose, according to an Oct. 2 news release from the Department of Justice.
Between 2021 and 2025, Dr. Jones operated a medical clinic from his residence, where he prescribed patients buprenorphine, benzodiazepines and stimulants in exchange for cash, without a demonstration of medical necessity.
Dr. Jones received $294,850.72 through CashApp and Venmo from patients for the prescriptions, the report said.
