James Weber, MD, will retire as CEO of The Specialty Alliance on Dec. 31, 2026, ending a healthcare leadership career of about 40 years. He will stay on as chair emeritus and strategic adviser, City Biz reported Sept. 24.
The Specialty Alliance is a physician-led management services organization. It gives independent specialty practices shared business operations, technology and infrastructure, while the practices keep control of clinical decisions.
Dr. Weber built his career on physician-led specialty groups. He founded Texas Digestive Disease Consultants, then GI Alliance, then The Specialty Alliance. His model gives independent practices the scale and business support of a larger organization while physicians stay in charge of patient care.
Dr. Weber called it the privilege of his career to advance physician leadership and the physician-led mission behind The Specialty Alliance.
Mr. Walcker said Dr. Weber has been a trusted partner since he arrived in August, helping keep the leadership transition smooth while the organization’s mission moves forward.
In his new advisory role, Dr. Weber will keep working with the organization he founded while it looks for his successor.
