Ascension has closed its acquisition of Amsurg, an ASC development and management company, expanding the health system’s ambulatory platform to more than 312 ASCs across 36 states, according to a Sept. 16 news release covering fiscal year 2026 results.

The deal, which closed in June, added one-time transaction costs and new bond interest payments that Ascension said were offset at the investment income level; excluding those AmSurg-related costs, the health system’s core operations turned Operating Income positive in FY26. On a same-facility basis, Ascension’s total income from operations improved by $696 million year-over-year, and net income rose $826 million, or 141%.

“In addition, we closed the Amsurg transaction and expanded our ambulatory platform to 312+ ASCs to better serve our patients,” Saurabh Tripathi, Ascension’s executive vice president and CFO, said in the release. “These results reflect disciplined execution across the ministry and provide greater flexibility to invest in our strategic priorities, while maintaining a strong financial foundation.”

Ascension’s fiscal 2026 net income totaled $1.5 billion, and its operating loss narrowed to $120 million from $491 million a year earlier; recurring operating EBITDA was $1.2 billion, a 5% margin and $388 million improvement year-over-year.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
