Florida Surgery Center Barred From Seeing New Patients

The Atlantic Surgical Center in Pompano Beach, Fla., has been barred from seeing new patients as of Feb. 5 after an inspection by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, according to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The inspection came after a patient stopped breathing and slipped into a coma following a routine procedure.

The state inspection found that ASC’s managers had not properly monitored the patient, reviewed doctors’ credentials, had no documented patient-safety program and that the ASC has had no medical director since October, according to the report.
