WashU Medicine has named Andrés M. Bur, MD, FACS, chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery in its Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, effective Oct. 22, 2026,ASCO Post reported Aug. 27.
Dr. Bur will also serve as co-director of the Robert Ebert and Greg Stubblefield Head and Neck Tumor Center at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis. He joins co-directors Douglas R. Adkins, MD, a medical oncologist, and Wade L. Thompson, MD, a radiation oncologist.
Dr. Bur comes to WashU Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he held the David S. Zamierowski professorship and served as vice chair of research and vice chair of innovation and technology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He also directed the university’s Minimally Invasive and Robotic Head and Neck Surgery program.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, summa cum laude, from Tufts University in Medford, Mass., and a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he also completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency. He completed a fellowship in head and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery at Emory University in Atlanta.
Dr. Bur co-chairs the American Head and Neck Society’s Artificial Intelligence Task Force and chairs its Young Members Service.

The appointment strengthens WashU Medicine’s head and neck oncology leadership as Siteman Cancer Center continues to expand its multidisciplinary tumor programs in St. Louis.
