A Chicago man has been indicted on charges of impersonating physicians to obtain unauthorized prescription medications, including GLP-1 drugs, for paying customers by stealing the identities of approximately 60 physicians across 19 states, the Justice Department said in an Aug. 17 news release.

Rodney Greer allegedly collected the names and national provider identification numbers of real physicians and called approximately 261 pharmacies on more than 3,300 occasions between January 2023 and March 2026, falsely identifying himself as a licensed physician to obtain prescriptions. The scheme facilitated hundreds of thousands of dollars in unauthorized healthcare plan benefits for customers who paid Mr. Greer for his services without ever receiving authorization from a licensed physician.

Mr. Greer faces one count of wire fraud, one count of healthcare fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft, carrying a combined maximum sentence of more than 30 years in prison. All charges are allegations only.
