The average signing bonus for physicians is nearly $40,000, according to a report from AMN Healthcare.
The “2025 Review of Physician and Advanced Practitioner Recruiting Incentives” collected data from 1,420 permanent physician and advanced practitioner recruitment requests from April 1, 2024, March 31, 2025.
Here are five notes on physician’s and advanced practitioner’s signing bonuses:
- The average signing bonus in 2024-25 was $38,125 for physicians, up from $29,656 in 2020-21.
- Nurse practitioners and physician assistants had an average sign-on bonus of $12,869 in 2024-25, an increase of more than $5,000 compared to 2020-21.
- In 2024-25, the lowest signing bonus reported by a physician was $5,000, with a high of $250,000.
- Nearly three-quarters of recruitment requests for physicians and advanced practitioners offered a signing bonus, up from 51% in 2023-24.
- For the five most in-demand physician specialities, the average sign-on bonus in 2024-25 was $47,417.
