University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Clinton will build a new 22,000-square-foot ambulatory clinical center and undergo a major hospital renovation after the University of Michigan Board of Regents approved the project July 16 in St. Johns, Mich.
The $62 million project also adds 19,000 square feet of new hospital space and responds to sustained growth in outpatient and inpatient volumes in Clinton County, according to a July 16 news release. Design and construction is expected to take 37 months, funded through UM Health-Sparrow resources.
Planned upgrades include converting nearly all patient rooms to private rooms, expanded oncology space, additional surgical capacity, a second CT scanner and MRI availability seven days a week. The hospital will also expand its primary care and specialty care footprint.
“This project represents a comprehensive investment in the future of health care in St. Johns,” said Connie O’Malley, regional chief operating officer of University of Michigan Health. Ms. O’Malley said the current hospital has reached capacity given the area’s growth.
