Chattanooga (Tenn.) Heart Institute has agreed to pay $3.75 million to settle a class-action lawsuit stemming from a 2023 security incident, according to a July 9 report from The HIPAA Journal.
The breach, which occurred between March 8 and March 16, 2023, impacted the information of about 460,000 individuals.
Information including names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and health insurance information were potentially affected by the data security incident.
The practice denied claims of fault, wrongdoing and liability, but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of further litigation, the report said.
