The 10 physician specialties seeing the biggest pay jump

Psychiatry saw the highest pay increase from 2025 to 2026 at 8.7%, according to 2026 MGMA compensation benchmarks analyzed by salary transparency platform Marit Health. 

Infectious Disease and rheumatology, both historically lower-compensated internal medicine subspecialties, also saw significant jumps. 

Here are the 10 physician specialties seeing the highest pay jump:

  1. Psychiatry: 8.7%
  2. Infectious disease: 7.3%
  3. Nuclear medicine, radiation oncology: 6.4%
  4. Rheumatology : 6.3%
  5. Nephrology: 5.9%
  6. Urgent care: 5.6%
  7. Urology: 5.3%
  8. Physical medicine and rehabilitation: 5.1%
  9. Endocrinology: 5%
  10. Gastroenterology: 4.8%
