Key Business Groups Join Medical Device Industry in Opposing Tax

Leading business associations recently joined medical technology companies in urging Congressional leaders to repeal the medical device tax, which is part of the healthcare reform law, according to a news release by the Medical Device Manufacturers Association.

In addition to MDMA, the organizations included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers and the National Federation of Independent Business.

If the 2.3 percent tax is not repealed, the organizations’ letter to Congress warned that devicemakers might consider cutting manufacturing operations, research and development, and employment to recoup the lost earnings.
