Miami-based Florida International University and Coral Gables-based Baptist Health South Florida broke ground on a seven-story outpatient academic medical center that will include same-day surgery services.
The 163,000-square-foot facility is being funded through a $158 million appropriation from the state of Florida and is scheduled to open in 2028, according to a May 27 news release.
The center, located on FIU’s main campus, will offer multispecialty care, diagnostic imaging, infusion services, outpatient pharmacy services and ambulatory surgery capabilities.
The project expands a partnership announced in 2023 between FIU and Baptist Health South Florida. The organizations currently collaborate on 14 graduate medical education programs, including residencies and fellowships. The partnership plans to expand to more than 350 residents and fellows over the next five years, with a focus on specialties facing physician shortages.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
