Lexington, Ky.-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare broke ground May 6 on a $54 million oncology and ambulatory center at Middlesboro (Ky.) ARH Hospital, according to a report from CBS affiliate WYMT.
The four-story, 51,000-square-foot ARH advanced oncology and ambulatory center aims to expand access to cancer and specialty care services for patients in the region.
The facility will house medical, radiation and surgical oncology services, along with oncology nurses, social workers, pathologists and radiologists. The center will treat conditions including cancer, chronic leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and myelodysplasia.
The ambulatory center also is expected to include outpatient services for OB-GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, cardiology, imaging, laboratory and pharmacy care.
The project replaces an earlier standalone cancer center plan and is intended to reduce travel burdens for patients, according to the report.
