Torrance, Calif.-based CardioFit Medical Group has experienced a data breach.
In January and/or February, the practice sent protected health information via email without encryption, according to an April 10 letter filed by CardioFit Medical Group with the California Office of the Attorney General.
The emails may have included information such as names, demographic details, clinical information and insurance information. Social security numbers, bank account details and credit information were not included.
About 7,000 individuals were impacted by the breach, according to the HHS Office for Civil Rights.
At this time, there is no indication that any of the data has been misused, the letter said.
