Edison, N.J.-based Redefine Healthcare performed the world’s first robotic-assisted spine surgery in an ASC using the eCential Robotics platform.

Neurosurgeon David Wells-Roth, MD, completed the procedure March 5, at the Surgery Center of Hackensack (N.J.), according to an April 29 news release.

The platform integrates real-time navigation and robotics to support minimally invasive spine procedures and had previously been used only in hospital settings.

The milestone expands the use of advanced surgical technology into outpatient settings and increases access to complex spine procedures outside hospitals.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
