Previously shuttered Crozer-Chester (Pa.) Medical Center is being redeveloped with a focus on outpatient care, with primary care services expected to open within six to nine months.
The 424-bed hospital will be “right-sized,” with the inpatient facility reopening at one-tenth of its former size as care shifts toward outpatient services. The facility will be operated by a nonprofit healthcare provider, according to an April 15 report by PhillyVoice.
Future phases may add behavioral health and academic services, and the ownership group is in discussions with regional health systems to operate the campus.
The redevelopment follows the shutdown of Crozer Health’s parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings, which ceased operations after bankruptcy proceedings. The closures of Crozer-Chester Medical Center and other facilities resulted in more than 2,600 layoffs and reduced access to care in the region, according to the report.
